The programme for the 2016 Edinburgh International Festival was announced today. The festival takes place from 5 to 29 August 2016 in venues across Edinburgh and aims to “present three exhilarating weeks of the finest creators and performers from the worlds of the arts”.
Mikhail Peterenko will perform in Wagner ‘Das Rheingold’ with Mariinsky Opera Company.

Mikhail Petrenko joins the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst for a world premiere of an innovative double-bill of staged opera and ballet; an all- Bartok programme of the ballet 'The Miraculous Mandarin' and his well-known opera, 'Bluebeard’s Castle'.
"The Orchestra will be incorporated into the staging of both works, allowing us to be even more creative with the use of space. It is important for us to present new productions, for the musicians to grow in their understanding of each work and for audiences to see these masterful works with a fresh perspective" said Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. Joffrey Artistic Director of the Joffrey Ballet Ashley Wheater said, "the audience will feel the absolute power of dance and the voice altogether in one space."
Mikhail Petrenko is joined by soprano Katarina Dalayman for the performances which are staged by Yuri Possokhov.
Performances will take place on 7, 8, 9 and 10 April 2016 at Severance Hall.

Russian bass, Mikhail Petrenko returns to the Metropolitan Opera stage this month in the title role of Bartok’s psychological thriller, Duke Bluebeard’s Castle.
Conducted by Valery Gergeiev, Mikhail will star as the diabolical Bluebeard alongside soprano Nadja Michael who plays the role of his unwitting victim, Judith.
The new co- production with Teatr Wielki is lead by polish filmmaker and artistic director, Mariusz Trelinski and will premiere on Monday 26th January 2015.
November 19, the winner of international competitions Mikhail Petrenko presented to the audience his new chamber program in the Concert Mariinsky Theatre's Concert Hall: there sounded love songs of Mikhail Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Piano part was performed by Honored Russia Artist Marina Mishuk.
